The Smiths Falls Railway History Project began in June 2011. The project consists of five main components including an exhibit on the Social History of the Railway in Smiths Falls, as well as a small travelling exhibit, developing a curriculum-based education program for Gr. 7 & 8 students, working with elementary students and TVCogeco to collect and record oral histories of retired railway workers, family members and long-time residents and finally a website featuring a virtual exhibit, photo galleries and the oral histories.
The launch of the website signals the completion of the project and will be the showcase for the oral histories collected and recorded last April with the Gr. 7 & 8 students at Chimo Elementary School in Smiths Falls.
The project was funded through the Ministry of Culture & Tourism with support from the Town of Smiths Falls, TV Cogeco, Canadian Pacific Railway, Upper Canada District School Board and a private donation.
We hope you will be able to join us on the 23rd.
