Overnight Stay in a Caboose

Due to COVID-19 health safety precautions, the Overnight Stay in a Caboose programme has been shifted to weekend stays, only. This makes it easier to comply with all new cleaning regulations.

We hope to see you soon.

Today, most of us will only see the caboose in a museum, but you have the chance to experience the caboose in its true form. The Railway Museum is pleased to offer the rare opportunity for visitors to sleep in a caboose just as railroaders did.

Step back to the early railroading days, and book an overnight stay in one of our two, authentic cabooses (a 1940s wooden CPR caboose and our 1967s steel CNR caboose) overlooking our picturesque 1912 Canadian Northern Railway station. Curl up in our comfortable pull-down beds with fresh linens, settle back and relax in the quiet glow of the lantern.

Important Overnight Stay Information:

  • Available weekends from May to October
  • Check in time is 5 pm.
  • Check out time is 10 am.
  • Fresh linens and towels provided

Within the station grounds you will have access to the following conveniences:

  • Real bathrooms and shower facilities, with fresh towels, located in the Railway Station
  • WiFi access included
  • Power in the cabooses

Orange Steel Caboose (CN 79274):

Canadian National 79274 steel caboose was built in 1967 by Hawker Siddeley. The caboose was originally a CN caboose used from 1967-1986, then it was put into service by Dupont Canada in Maitland, ON. The caboose, built with steel, is modern in comparison to the wooden cabooses at the Railway Museum. Not only is the caboose steel, but it has an axle driver generator underneath, electric windshield wipers, lights, and expanded train crew quarters. These modern cabooses ran over many division behind a train with all cars destined for a common terminal.
