Inviting all aspiring conductors and train enthusiasts to an exciting, fun-filled week, jam-packed with science experiments, activities and crafts. Conductor Camp: Science of the Railway is being offered by the Railway Museum in Smiths Falls from July 15 – 19, 2013. Join us for the week or just for a day, but be sure to register early, as space is limited.
The program runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and will feature a different theme each day.
Monday July 15th – Full Steam Ahead!: Participants will learn about the wonders of steam by conducting an experiment as well as learning about other types of train engines, such as diesel and electric.
Tuesday July 16th – Trains and Tech: Become a train techie expert on how trains work and other important train technology, new and old.
Wednesday July 17th – Life on the Railway: Experience the busy lives of the railway: the workers, their families, oh, and don’t forget the passengers!
Thursday July 18th –Communicating with Codes and Signals: Decipher messages and learn other communication methods, such as hand and flag signals.
Friday July 19th – How the Railway Shaped our Town: Go back in time and explore the town during the height of the railway days. Discover how the railway shaped Smiths Falls!
Our summer camp is being offered to children 6 to 11 years old. The cost of the camp is $115/week ($100 for members) or $25/day (+ tax). Pre-registration and payment is due by July 12th at 4 pm.
