Smiths Falls Rail Retrospective 1955

Step back in time to the year 1955 to see the westerly portion of the town of Smiths Falls and the trains rolling on the Canadian National Railways line.

A dedicated crew of expert railroad modelers are passionately building a huge operating diorama in HO, 1:87 scale, inside vintage Canadian National Railways passenger coach 5802.

The project commenced in the spring of 2018 by repurposing the interior of this 1923 passenger coach. Construction of scaled structures, scenery and bridges is ongoing as the team follows the historical CNR survey map, researched photos and documentation.

 

Miniature details are always being added to give our visitors a spectacular look at bygone days when thestationand Church Street West yard where a hub of activity with passenger, freight, track maintenance and postal rail service and also bustling industrial and commercial trade.

The model train journeys through the huge 65 feet window box type display showcasing the iconic Rideau Canal railway lift bridge at the south end and the elevated CPR yard entrance with Belleville and Chalk River sub-division tracks at the northern most end.
